Null cable does not seem to work . . .
As advised . . . I purchased a DB9 male to female null cable, but after hooking it up between my computer and the Quantar.
It says misconfiguration or no COM port seen, so now I wonder what the correct cable is? The shop I bought the Quantar from thought it might be a straight through cable? I see a shop on EBay selling a Quantar cable just for this use, but they want $34.95, ouch!
Does anybody know exactly what this cable actually is? I'll buy whatever I need, just want to get it right, thanks
Solution:
Nope, no reason to blow $34.95 on this - it's definitely a DIY item. Here's how it should pin out:
A nine-pin male to nine-pin female EIA-232 null-modem cable (Motorola part number:
30-80369E31) is required to connect the computer to the device.
DB9F <-> DB9M
1 <-> Nothing
2 <-> 3
3 <-> 2
4 <-> Nothing
5 <-> 5
6 <-> Nothing
7 <-> 8
8 <-> 7
unless you bought a special built cable, male to female cables are almost always straight thru. you need a null, which is usually a female to female cable when buying stock cables. then use a gender bender to make one end male to plug to the SCC.
